Vladimír Merta

He studied at the Painting Studio of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague during 1977–1983. With his multifaceted work, he co-creates the outlines of the generation of artists entering the Czech art scene around the mid-1980s. At that time, he realized landscape performances and their recordings, spatially conceived paintings, objects, and installations. In the following years, he reacted sensitively and with characteristic distance to the increasing pressure of the world of money and media. In his works, he reflects on his experiences in a distinctive way from outside the artistic sphere which he has been intensively involved in for a long time. He is currently the head of the New Media Studio at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. He has participated in a number of solo and collective exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad. His works are present in many important state and private collections.
