Are you interested in the intersection of contemporary art, ecology, and geology? Summer School Becoming a Stone offers a unique opportunity to explore the concept of material time, slow geological transformations, and the relationship between humans and the mineral world.

The program brings together artistic, philosophical, and ecological approaches to the question of what we can learn from stones – their resilience, endurance, and their ability to record history. Through lectures, workshops, excursions, and discussions with artists, theorists, and curators, we will explore contemporary art as a tool for perceiving non-human perspectives in new ways.

What to expect?

  • Lectures and discussions with artists, curators, and theorists
  • Hands-on workshops and collective artistic reflection
  • An excursion focused on geological layers and slow landscape transformations
  • A critical reflection on sustainability, extraction, and the climate crisis in the context of art

Dates: July 24–27, 2025
Location: Pragovka Gallery, Prague
Free participation (participants cover their own travel and accommodation costs, lunches will be provided)
Capacity: 10–15 participants, selected by the curators and representatives of Pragovka Gallery

How to apply?

  • Application deadline: May 18, 2025, 11:59 PM (CET)
  • Applications will be reviewed by the curators and organizers. Selected participants will be notified in early June.
