Dance photography workshop with Vojtěch Brtnický

Contemporary dance photography is a discipline that is a bit different from other types of theater photography. It is darker, wilder, more unpredictable. We bring a workshop where you can look under the hood of dance photography and try everything.

Workshop

One of the biggest challenges for today's photographer is keeping the focus where it belongs. At first glance, it may seem inconceivable that a photographer would not pay enough attention to the photographed scene, although this happens to a greater extent than one would like to admit. Both modern technology and attention span, as well as confidence in one's own abilities, are to blame. This workshop will ensure that photographers remove all distractions and gain more confidence to stop dwelling on the images they have just taken. It will take care of working in manual mode. On the sidelines, the participants will deal with exposure in contrasting conditions, which they practically do not encounter anywhere else than in the theater. They will touch on the issue of LED lights and Mirrorless technology (banding). But most importantly, they will learn to concentrate, not to lose contact with the photographed scene and to take care not to disturb the space of the performers. It will be all the more interesting that the workshop will take place in the premises of the historic hall 19.

Vojtěch Brtnický is a very experienced photographer in theatre, contemporary dance and other forms of non-staged photography. He worked for the press for several years. He regularly conducts manual exposure/photography workshops in low-light theater conditions. He takes part in photographs for Tanec Praha, Laterna Magika or 420PEOPLE.

The workshop is suitable for both beginners and advanced photographers who are interested in learning more about the craft or want to try working in the field.

The workshop consists of the following parts:

1. theoretical – a few words about exposure, familiarization with the technique, a few examples for the introduction, setting the manual mode and turning off the LCD displays
2. practical – photographing the dancer, questions, learning, putting theory into practice
3. practical - photographing the "performance", neither colleagues nor performers may be disturbed, photographers are left to themselves
break, lunch, selection and editing of photos
4. showing the results, talking about the problems that the participants encountered, talking about the composition

If necessary, we can lend up to three FF DSLRs (digital single-lens reflex cameras with a sensor the size of a cine film frame) with a Canon E-mount bayonet.
