Magdaléna Pacáková focuses on biological topics related to various animal strategies and defence mechanisms from the plant and mycological kingdoms. Plants, unlike animals, have incomplete growth, they do not have a fixed form into which they grow and stay that way. A life dependent on photosynthesis is one big scramble for light, so the main goal is to grow and outgrow. The outcome of the residency will be a series of paintings that will thematise this life strategy, accompanied by an installation of braided willow wicker tubes, which will be a continuation of my previous work, Worms. The use of the basketry technique works on the principle of endlessly adding more rows of twigs, referring to unfinished growth. The final form then resembles visible and microscopic plant structures in constant change. These are microtubules, which play an important role in cell division, i.e. the genesis of daughter cells and thus growth.
