This poetic, visually refined documentary creates an intimate memorial to the most successful Czechoslovak artist of the early millennium. Ján Mančuška died tragically at the age of 39. He exhibited at MoMA and the Centre Pompidou, but did not achieve comparable fame in his homeland. The vast body of work he left behind is united by the principle of absence - what is not in the painting speaks with surprising intensity. Director Štěpán Pech approaches Mančuška's portrait in the same way, tracing the boundaries of his intimate, family life and cultural landscape with an absent centre.
The film will be followed by a discussion with director Štěpán Pech. Due to the unfavorable forecast, this year's last summer cinema will take place in the Velký sál on the second floor above the gallery.
