German artist Stefan Hurtig’s exhibition explores the coexistence of humans and non-human beings. Through his works, the artist raises questions and encourages us to reflect on how we relate to the planet, how we live, and how we exploit natural resources. What can we learn from the sustainable ways in which algae live?

The video installation SOLIDARITIES functions as a speculative research laboratory. In a series of videos, viewers are guided by a non-binary, fluid character who moves through a microalgae farm, plays underwater, and merges with objects made from algae.

The hybrid being Zoé tells stories of the superpowers of algae and their symbiotic communities, while cultures of the microalga spirulina bubble away meditatively in the background. New forms of solidarity between species offer a vision of the world beyond the Anthropocene.
